View Full Version : Regarding: Backseat Admins

As of late I have seen this and have frankly become sick and tired of this. We have normal players acting like they are admin. This goes on the whole ground of "do not impersonate other people".
Example:
Player1: ******
Demon}N{: Watch the language
Player2: Watch the language
(above is just an example it has happened with many other subjects)
See the difference in above? Demon is an actual admin. He is taking care of the job. Player2 has the admin attitude but indeed doesn't have admin rights.
If you are not an admin, just rephrase to something like "Easy now" "easy on the language please"
I think this has been a problem with a few players and those know who they are. I understand you do it to be helpful. But we gotta let admins (if they are in game) deal with it. If you have a problem with a player sure, come to this section to post an report. It's a great way to get justice served. But acting like an admin will get you in more trouble.
Also please refrain from ever saying things like: "I know an admin and you're going to get banned". Thank epic this hasn't happened that I know of yet.
That is mainly it.
For those who like to skip this whole little rant comes down to "If you're not an admin you have zero right to 'enforce the rules', let the other guys handle it. If you have a problem with a player, report it and take a screenshot or the best way possible to prove to us what happened.

I agree with Muffin.
I'd just like to add, that we appreciate the effort and the action when we're not around. But when an admin is in-game and a person curses, or breaks a rule, that person doesn't need 5 people telling them not to do what they are doing. If an admin comes in, chances are they'll catch it and handle it appropriately.
Also, please don't ask us to just kick somebody. If there is a situation, kindly alert an admin and we will handle it; just do not ask us not to kick somebody out of the blue.
(Not to steal the fire Muffin, just ranting a bit)

I was told that i should say "Please watch the language" when someone swears in the server. (not based on my personal opinion but what a higher up told me when i asked in TS.) But the whole "i no an admin i and ur gonna get banned" thing i agree with.

The only area I have seen that I have a problem with is a non-admin add the information a lot later then the admin. I do not mind if someone states to watch the language and they are a non-admin (rephrasing it I guess would help, and as long as they do not say something like watch the lang. or your kick or banned, etc.), but I do have a problem with an admin posting to watch the language and then later a non-admin adds on to the request. If it hits around the same time, I understand, not all people know all the admins. Sometimes with my old age, I do not catch all the problems, and sometimes a non-admin posts something to warn the user and I catch that and then look at the chat logs and realize that I missed it.
The bigger problem I have is when you cross the line (at least in my eyes), when a non-admin states watch your language or you will be kicked or banned or I know the admin, so you better watch it. I have a huge problem with that.
In regards to No-jams comments about asking to kick/ban someone, that does frustrate me. It is better to tell an admin "hey so and so you might want to look at so and so because this is what I have seen". We have rules to follow on kicking/banning etc. and if we end up banning, we have to account for our actions and write up a report.
Ok, I will get off the soap box.

I for one have no problem with non-admins telling people off for swearing even if there is an admin in-game we all know it's a hard thing to do both play and admin at the same time, unless it's like 3 or 4 telling one person off for their language then yea that would be over doing it.
As for repeating or warning people for language or any other admin comments i don't know anyone or seen anyone type with out looking at the keyboard so by time they have typed it and hit enter the admin has hit the key bind and got in before the non-admin has finished, but like what rom said if it's alot later than the admin with threatening kicking and banning then yea there way out of line.

well i tell ppl to watch the language all the time i dont see a problem
if they persist i then report them or call for an admin
if it is a problem me saying "language" then ill stop i dont mind
as for asking for a kick/ban i dont ask for that if a admin is playing i will ask them if they can get someone else to spectate a certain player if others are on TS which ive done with nojam a few times before and he was nice enough to switch to spectate to see a certain player team hampering or whatever, which i dont like because its interrupting his game but i do understand why he does it.....
theres a few as of late though seem to get the rules mixed up or they seem to think applying to the USK will automatically get them admin status which i or someone else has corrected them on

Uh-Oh... I have a problem now... I have a habit of automatically saying that is against the rules so you will be muted/kicked/banned by an administrator. In fact this happened today:
Guy: Oh d**n you Mother****e*.
Me: Don't swear, It's against the rules so if an admin sees you, You could be banned or kicked.
Guy: Oh okay. Sorry.
I think I see the problem you guys have.. He says sorry to me when he shouldn't really......
I'm an admin of a UT99 server that I own with my dad and it's instinct. I better fix it up, If an admin, Or actually ANYONE sees me do that, remind me pl0x.

This is good, this needed to be brought up. I think we are pretty much in agreement, we sure do not want to see non-admin's stating that they either they know an admin or you will be kicked or banned, etc.
The correct approach is what INEEDHELP stated. If you see a problem with language and you either know for a fact no admin is around or you think there is no admin around, then a "please watch your language" is fine. If it happens again, the best recommendation is find an admin or someone else that knows all the admins and TS.
As an admin we have been instructed by the bosses in the past, that if someone comes to you and your not busy (you can not use the excuse that your in another game), then you should go in and take care of the problem. I have only seen very few cases were a non-admin will come asking and an admin will say no (usually they have to be somewhere else).
That is the best approach in this matter.

Yes, i am with Help, i warn people in game all the time to stop breaking rules but don't threaten them. For the most part, there are usually admins on when i am so i don't really have a problem with not being able to find one.
And i have never had an admin tell me no, they can't spectate a player.

well since i dont use teamspeak its a lil awkward at times for me to get an admin so i either just say admin, phy, z, filak or muffin to see if any of them pop up outta thin air....i have told others to do the same
Ive been asked to speak to an admin about a certain player but ive told them because i havent seen it first hand they would need to come here and report them but they never do

I've also been told from 1 or 2 admins to just say to "watch your language", and sometimes some admins tell me to say that "they will kicked/banned if you keep doing what you are doing. But otherwise I keep my mouth shut about the rules.
