I'm gonna be here 6 years
3. You have a barrel of oil, and you need to measure out just one gallon. How do you do this if you only have a three-gallon container and a five-gallon container?
fill 5 gallon container
fill 3 from the 5
dump 3 and fill 3 from 5 (giving you 2 gallons in the 3)
fill 5
top off 3 from 5
dump 3
refill 3 from 5, 5 now has 1 gallon

1, 2 6 where wrong the rest where all right bet people have to google them to get them right but i must say you was close with 1 thats all i'm saying
1: 1113213211
3: Pi's solution works, but it would be simpler to fill the three gallon container, then pour the contents in to the five gallon container twice. The second time, when the five gallon container is completely full, the three gallon container will have one gallon left.

yes but it was still wrong Pi
1. 1113213211 After the first line, each line describes the previous line:
One One
Two Ones
One Two, One One
(and so on...)
2. He said, "You'll sentence me to six years in prison." If it was true, then the judge would have to make it false by sentencing him to four years. If it was false, then he would have to give him six years, which would make it true. Rather than contradict his own word, the judge set the man free.
3. Fill the 3-gallon container with oil and pour it into the 5-gallon container. Then fill the 3-gallon container again and use it to fill the 5-gallon container the rest of the way. One gallon will be left in the 3-gallon container.
4. Five. There are only four colors, so five socks guarantee that two will be the same color.
5. Silence.
6. It's part of his job - he's a justice of the peace.
7. Seven. The four daughters have only one brother, making five children, plus mom and dad.

good job octane ;D
Your longest word was created for the specific purpose of taking that title from "antidisestablishmentarianism", and is not as long as some place names, technical terms and chemical names. See Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longest_word_in_English). I'd post the chemical name for titin - a muscle protein, but it's over three times the forum's character limit.
Cool quiz though.
