Get a QX9650? The thing has "unlocked" overclocking, so you can basically overclock it as hard as you can until either your cooling method is no longer sufficient or your PSU can no longer power the thing. Those things can get up to scary numbers too, ever heard of a quad core get up to 5.6Ghz?

These dudes scored over 30K in 3DMark06. (http://www.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.awardfabrik.de%2Fawar dfabrik%2Fcrossfirex-no-name-holt-zwei-weltrekorde.html&langpair=de|en&hl=en&ie=UTF8)

Only drawback is that it's 1 grand...

I recently build a half-decent gaming PC (http://www.borgamers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=552) for $500. Spend a couple hundred more on the video card and CPU and you should be able to play just about anything at decent quality.

$1400 CPU? That's insane. That's close to what I paid for my laptop.

I just built a high end (not top of the line) system in October. Even with my Monitor (22 inch widescreen), it was $850, so $1400 CPU there is something wrong with that. If I went top of the line Motherboard and CPU (with motherboard), that would of been in the $500ish range. For me the video card, was a big cost to my system.

Unless you are going to buy two and SLi them, They shouldn't cost more than $130 each.

EVGA GeForce 8600 GT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130311) for $110. I highly recommend EVGA because of the lifetime warranty that they come with and the 60 day "Step Up" program that allows you to get the newest model that comes out for a significant discount. If you want to take it up a step, the 9600 series came out not too long ago and offers essentially the same performance as a 8800GT for about $50 less.
